In 2015 the Gramona family followed their wish to strengthen ties with other winegrowers who put grape quality and commitment to their land in the Penedès first. They initiated the founding of a collective of farming families in the area around Sant Sadurní d’Anoia.Leading the initiative, Jaume Gramona set up lifetime contracts for the vineyards and the practice of biodynamic agriculture. Almost ten years later, we can see that this small regenerative revolution has had an impact far beyond combating climate change and restore the health of the land and the vineyard.
Each day we can see that the true value of Aliances per la Terra is the strength of working together, of collective learning and realising that we are not making our way towards the future alone, but as part of a very powerful organism that is surely unstoppable. Aliances per la Terra has moved beyond individuals and has become an entity that is fully aware of the good work it does.
This year, we wanted to pay a small tribute to the people who spend their days working the land, seeking to improve every day, learning from their own experience and that of the entire community. We have launched a sparkling wine aged for 24 months under the name of Aliances. The blend is composed of the historic varieties of our region, Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada, and we are proud to display the stamp that identifies us as winegrowers and winemakers associated with Aliances per la Terra (https://www.aliancesperlaterra.com) on the back of the bottle. This stamp aims to achieve certification quality, like that of worldwide entities such as Demeter and Biodyvin, which, year after year, continues to endorse the biodynamic viticulture practised by all the associated families. The stamp is also on the back label of other of our sparkling wines, such as Imperial, the best known of the collection, and Roent, which in its new vintage adds Garnacha, for an extra touch of typicity.
All of us are intervening in the territory in a positive way. The benefits in each of the vineyards are obvious and will be even more so in the long term. Despite suffering the ravages of drought and heat, the resilience of the vines worked in a responsible way is greater, and encourages us to continue with biodynamic practices. These practices prioritise life, in the face of the different challenges that nature presents us with.
More and more winemakers in our region are working according to this philosophy – all sharing the same principles. Our dream is that, little by little, Aliances por la Terra’s mission, vision and values will spread among the land and will become the principal way of working.
We are making a living from the land that our ancestors have worked, and we want future generations to be able to do so as well. Currently, among the thirteen members, we grow more than 420 hectares of biodynamic vineyards in the Penedès. We will work tirelessly so that one day all the vines in the region will carry the stamp of Aliances per la Terra.
