Learning from our ancestors is something we do naturally at Gramona because, due to our long ageing process, the production of a bottle of wine often begins with one generation and continues with the next. That is why preserving our high quality standards is so important to us.\u00a0 With each bottle, we are perpetuating a century-old tradition that has been handed down to us by our forefathers: from the respect of the vine to the presentation of the wine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Continuing the practices introduced by previous generations is not always easy; but we believe that if they are beneficial to our company, we should continue to replicate them. A good example of this is the cellophane in which most of our bottles come wrapped: ignorance about its origin has raised some concerns about its use.<\/p>\n

In recent years, in which respect for the environment and the call for sustainability have become ever stronger in most parts of the world<\/u><\/a><\/strong> , cellophane has not always been well perceived. It has been wrongly referred to as a plastic as the appearance is similar. But true to the tradition that has been associated with our wines since the middle of the last century, we continue to use our cellophane which is obtained through a artisanal production process dating from the early 20th century, before plastic had been invented, and which uses no petroleum derivatives. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This type of material is of vegetable origin (a derivative of cellulose and 100% biodegradable). <\/strong>It should therefore be disposed of in the brown waste bin. \u00a0It takes a few months to decompose, but it disappears from our environment in a completely natural way.<\/p>\n

Therefore, far from being a negative, the cellophane wrapping is something very positive for us. We started using it almost a century ago, so this presentation of our bottles has become a differentiating feature for us and part of our historical heritage.<\/p>\n

It also protects the bottle from external factors such as light and indicates its good state of preservation. This implies that both the transport and its treatment in the store have been correct.<\/p>\n

For this reason, and with our awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and our local countryside, we will continue to pay close attention to every single step in the crafting our wines<\/strong>. This starts in the vineyard, where biodynamics <\/strong>and respect for the land are the norm, and finishes with the presentation of our bottles, individually hand-wrapped in a biodegradable and eco-friendly cellophane<\/strong> in an artesanal and sustainable manner.<\/p>\n

Thanks to these and other practices, they have led us to be recognized as the best sustainable project in the country according to the European environmental management tool EMAS<\/u><\/strong><\/a> \u00a0(Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Recognition that pushes us to remain an example of sustainability<\/strong> for future generations.<\/p>\n<\/div>
